Hi! My name is Maddy.

I’m a freelance web designer. I design websites that are attractive, functional, and usable. I code by hand using best practices, resulting in websites that are fast-loading, optimized for search engines, and cross-browser compatible.

I offer my services to individuals and organizations around the world. I am currently available for freelance projects. Besides having the technical skills, I’m also an efficient time manager, a good listener, a critical thinker, attentive to detail, and a bit of a perfectionist. And I always deliver the highest quality of work.

You can use this site to learn more about me, take a look at what I offer, check out some past work, and tell me what you need.

About the designer

My fascination with computers started early in life. I wrote stories using WordStar as a child and built my first website when I was twelve. I learned basic programming in high school. Before I knew it, I was in ADMU majoring in Computer Science.

My university years were particularly memorable. I attended a writers’ workshop for the first time. I lived abroad for a semester as an exchange student in NTU. For our thesis, my partner and I worked on a social networking site engine. I graduated with an Honorable Mention the same year that my university turned 150 years old.

I’m passionate about web design and front-end development. Feel free to drop me a line if you’d like to talk about a project.

When I’m not doing client work, I’m most likely engaging in further study of design and development. I strive to learn something new every day. I also like reading novels, writing short fiction, playing board games, and simply enjoying the company of my family and friends.

Recent work

Here is a selection of recent work to give you an idea of what I can do for you. The information provided is as follows: project title, work description, client location, project description, and tools or technologies used.

Zkipster

web design
Zurich, Switzerland
Photoshop

Zkipster is an online guest list management platform for club promoters, hosts, and staff. I designed a website to present their services to potential customers and provide control panel access to existing clients. The website features a day mode for regular browsing and a night mode for use in a dark club environment. Clients can choose from eight color themes for each mode. Distinctive headings, simple typography, and a clean look complement the service: less hassle, more room for fun.

Save the Orcas

template coding and CMS integration
Seattle, Washington
XHTML, CSS, Interspire Website Publisher

Save the Orcas is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of Puget Sound’s orca whale population and other marine mammals around the globe. They asked me to integrate their existing template (which was designed and coded by another designer) with their CMS. I overhauled the markup and stylesheets, making the code semantic, accessible, and search engine optimized. I coded an Interspire Website Publisher theme from the revised template, resulting in an orca-themed content-managed website.

Pro Audio Theme

web design and stylesheet coding
Portland, Oregon
Photoshop, CSS

Hostbaby is a web host for musicians whose custom CMS allows customers to create entire websites from scratch. I was asked to design a recording studio-themed template for the CMS. The theme reflects the atmosphere of an ideal studio — a quiet place with no clutter and lots of breathing room. The design features simple elegance and attractive typography. It also contains places for user-uploaded photos. I implemented the design entirely in CSS; the markup was standardized by the CMS. Visit Hostbaby.

Maddon.net

Maddon.net

web design and development
Photoshop, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP

I built Maddon.net to present my work to prospective clients. I wanted the website to show my personality, so I implemented a design filled with elements I love — cursive type, wallpaper patterns, scraps of art, and scans from my favorite books. The result is a luxurious yet oddly restrained design that draws attention to the content. Visit Maddon.net.

Magic Lantern

Magic Lantern

blog design and theme development
Photoshop, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Wordpress

Magic Lantern is an online journal where I write about design, literature, technology, and other subjects of interest. I wanted it to be bold and colorful while allowing lots of breathing room for the content. The solution was to use distinctive headings and blocks of color combined with an easily readable content area. Visit Magic Lantern.

Vitrochem Technology

Vitrochem Technology

code rewriting and design revisions
Singapore
XHTML, CSS, PHP

Vitrochem Technology provides adhesives and sealants for a wide range of industries. I was asked to revise their markup and stylesheets, making the code semantic, lightweight, and search engine friendly. I also implemented small design revisions on the original website. Visit Vitrochem Technology.

Atlas Obscura

Atlas Obscura

front-end development
United States
XTHML, CSS

Atlas Obscura is a collaborative project cataloging singular, bizarre, and fantastical places that get left out of traditional travel guidebooks. They were dissatisfied with their bulky markup and stylesheets. I rewrote them, transforming them into lightweight, standards-compliant front-end code. I used the existing design for the most part, while also creating new design elements where necessary. Visit Atlas Obscura.

Intel Retail Advantage

Intel Retail Advantage

front-end development
Singapore
XHTML, CSS, JavaScript

This website is Intel’s official portal for retail sales professionals in the Asia-Pacific. It contains sales training modules such as games, articles, and interactive quizzes; sales support tools such as videos, demos, and presentations; and learning community tools such as news and photo sharing. As front-end developer, my responsibilities include designing the user interface, improving usability and content presentation, and writing clean front-end code.

DHL China Ops Training and Development Portal

DHL China Ops T&D Portal

web design and development
China

This internal site is the training and development portal of the DHL Operations department in China. Through this portal, employees can keep track of their training history, plan their career development, and access various resources. I am currently working on the project’s user interface design and front-end development.
